October 11, 2024 — OWOX BI Streaming. Introducing a New Algorithm for Determining Geodata

changelog-2024-10-11 (1).png

At OWOX, we recognize the critical role that accurate geodata plays in marketing analytics. Many of our customers use geodata in their reports—for example, to analyze visitors by country, purchases by city, and more. The OWOX BI GA4 Streaming collects geodata based on the IP addresses of visitors who have consented to share their PII data

Introducing the Enhanced Geodata Algorithm

Today, we announce the release of a new and improved algorithm for determining geodata—including continent, country, region, and city—in GA4 event-based web streaming and server-side streaming. Please note that this applies only to events sent from your website, not from the server via the Measurement Protocol.

Initial tests of the new algorithm indicate that a higher percentage of sessions now receive accurately identified geodata. To enhance the precision of the collected data, the new algorithm allows us to update the IP address database more frequently than before.

Smooth Migration to Improved Algorithm

Understanding the significant impact geodata has on decision-making in marketing analytics, we conducted successful tests with select clients to ensure the new algorithm delivers positive results.

Today, we are announcing the beginning of a phased rollout of the new algorithm. Our managers will reach out to each client with active web streaming or server-side streaming to facilitate a smooth and effective migration from the old algorithm to the new one.
