We are excited to introduce a significant update to the OWOX: Reports, Charts & Pivots extension for Google Sheets. With the "Visualize current sheet" feature, you can now create powerful cohort analysis tables in just a few clicks. This update empowers analysts to focus on insights, not manual data processing.
What’s New?
The "Visualize current sheet" feature now supports two types of cohort tables:
- Conversion Rates Table: Displays percentage-based conversion rates for tracking user behavior.
- Absolute Values Table: Shows absolute numbers for each cohort, providing a clear view of your data
Both table types are generated automatically, saving valuable time and reducing the potential for errors. Simply configure your data, and let the extension do the heavy lifting.
Why Cohort Analysis Matters
Cohort analysis is an essential tool for tracking and evaluating user behavior over time. By grouping users based on shared characteristics—such as the date of first interaction—you can uncover trends, analyze retention, and monitor conversion rates effectively. Read more about cohort analysis in the OWOX Blog.
Before this update, creating cohort tables required significant manual effort, including formula creation and recalculations. Now, with OWOX’s updated extension, you can generate accurate, ready-to-use cohort tables in moments, enabling better decision-making.
How to Get Started
Generating cohort tables with the OWOX extension is as seamless as creating charts or pivot tables.
Follow these steps:
-
Prepare Your Data: Ensure your dataset includes at least two date fields and two metric fields.
-
Use the Extension: Navigate to the Google Sheets menu: Extensions → OWOX: Reports, Charts & Pivots → Visualize current sheet.
-
Configure and Generate: Confirm the columns and data types in the popup window. Then click “Visualize,” and the extension will automatically create cohort tables on a new sheet.
Requirements for Smooth Operation
To make the most of this feature, follow these guidelines:
- Mandatory Fields: Your source data must include at least two date fields and two metric fields.
- Data Volume Limit: Cohort tables can only be generated if the source sheet contains fewer than 100,000 cells (~25,000 rows with 4 columns).
Note: If your Google Sheet document exceeds the cell limit, apply filters or use a LIMIT query to reduce the data size. Once the tables are created, you can remove the filters or limits, and re-run your Data Mart, and the visualizations will update automatically.
Customization Options
The extension offers flexibility to tailor your cohort analysis:
- Select specific metrics.
- Change sorting options: First or Last.
- Customize dates.
- Adjust time granularity: Days, Months, or Years.
For example, if your dataset includes fields like “First Visit” and “Purchase Date,” you can group data by months, sort cohorts by the first interaction, and focus on specific metrics to gain actionable insights.
