We believe that everyone should have easy access to data. That’s why, we're excited to announce a major shift: transitioning from proprietary Pipelines to free open-source data connectors! Our ambition is to empower every business to become data owners, neither compromising access nor paying a penny to third parties.
This new approach also fosters a collaborative community where data analysts can create, share, and improve connectors, driving innovation in data management. Basic knowledge of Apps Script is all you need to get started!
What Are Open-Source Data Connectors?
Open-source JavaScript Data Connectors are independent tools, not tied to the OWOX BI platform, that let users import data into spreadsheets or data warehouses without relying on proprietary solutions. Starting today, the first set of connectors developed by OWOX is available for everyone. Looking ahead, anyone will be able to create, customize, and share new connectors to suit their needs.
Key Benefits of Open-Source Data Connectors
- Privacy-First Approach: Your credentials are never shared with third-party services, ensuring complete data security.
- Unlimited Customization: Adjust schedules and data schemas as your business requirements change.
- Simplified Tech Stack: Build pipelines directly in Google Sheets using Apps Script—no need for additional tools or servers.
- Cost-Effective: The connectors are free under the ELv2 license for internal use or for offering paid services.
- Community-Driven Development: Collaborate with other users by contributing to existing integrations or creating new ones, fostering innovation and shared growth.
How It Works
Open-source connectors, like any other open-source solution, not only allow you to take advantage of their features but also offer opportunities for improvement and customization. Depending on your needs, you can choose one of the following paths:
Option 1: User
If you need to import data from an Ads Service or other APIs to Google Sheets:
- Set up your imports: Copy the Google Sheets template for available integrations and customize it as needed.
- Automate data imports without requiring any coding skills.
Option 2: Contributor
If you want to contribute:
- Enhance or create: Developers can improve existing integrations or create new ones using Apps Script. Use the detailed instructions provided in the Contributor’s Guide.
- Collaborate: Share your connectors with others or use connectors created by the community. Collaboration leads to better tools and solutions.

What’s Happening with OWOX BI Pipelines?
Aligned with our vision of empowering data ownership through easy and secure access, the deprecation process for OWOX BI Pipelines will begin on January 27 and conclude on March 1, 2025. During this period, you will have ample opportunity to migrate from your existing pipelines to open-source connectors. Pipelines will remain fully operational throughout this period, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted setup of new connectors.
We are confident that open-source connectors will streamline your workflows and make data management more accessible to business users who prefer working with tools like Google Sheets. And also regardless of how the data was collected in your DWH, we are dedicated to providing exceptional value—through actionable insights, comprehensive reports, semantic layer control, or data hand-off artifacts—leveraging your existing data to its fullest potential.

FAQ
Will my existing data in BigQuery be affected?
No, all data collected by Pipelines will remain in your Google Cloud Project (GCP). You continue to retain full ownership and control over your data.
Will the data structure change with open-source connectors?
Yes, the structure will change because we’ve fully transitioned to an ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) approach instead of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load). With ELT, you’ll benefit from significantly faster data loading, enabling near real-time availability of raw data. This approach also provides greater flexibility for performing complex transformations directly in your data warehouse, allowing you to adapt quickly to changing business needs. Additionally, ELT is ideal for handling larger data volumes, ensuring scalability as your data grows.
Will my subscription cost change after Pipelines stop working?
Yes, our managers will reach out to discuss any necessary adjustments to your subscription.
Will other OWOX BI products, such as Streaming, Transformations, and ‘OWOX: Reports’ extension, be affected?
No, Streaming, Transformations, and ‘OWOX: Reports…’ extension for Google Sheets will continue to function as usual. Only Pipelines are being shut down.
Who will maintain the open-source connectors?
While OWOX has created the initial set of connectors, the broader community provides ongoing maintenance and support.
Which JavaScript connectors are available today?
Currently available connectors include:
- From Facebook Marketing API to Google Sheets
