February 14, 2020 — OWOX BI Smart Data. Custom definitions: define new metrics and dimensions for your reports

Extend the list of metrics and dimensions available in Smart Data with new definitions. Have them calculated according to your formula or ad them from the website user behavior data table.

Calculated definitions are based on other metrics and dimensions available in Smart Data report builder and calculated by a custom formula.

You can calculate a definition using data from any connected Smart Data source set.

Website data definitions are custom metrics and dimensions you are collecting from your website to Google Analytics and then to Google BigQuery. You can use only the definitions present in the website data table connected to the current Smart Data source set.

The data for both definition types is used from a Smart Data source set that is set as active on the Smart Data main page. The added definitions are available only in the source set they were created in.

How to add a custom definition to Smart Data

  1. Go to Smart Data and make sure the data source set you want to add a new definition to is active.
  2. Click on the active source set, then click Manage custom definitions:Custom_definitions_Main_Page_en.png
    Alternatively, you can click Custom definitions in the metrics/dimensions menu on a report page:Custom_definitions_add_definitions_report_screen_en.png
  3. You’ll get to the custom definitions management page for the active data source set. The source set’s name is displayed at the top of the page.
  4. Select the type of a definition you want to add: Calculated definitions or Website data definitions. Click Add definition in the corresponding tab and follow the setup process:Custom_definitions_add_definitions_en.png

The new custom definition will be saved and available in the current Smart Data source set.

The definition will appear in the Custom definitions group in the metrics/dimensions menu and you'll be able to use it to create or edit a report in Smart Data.
