June 20, 2024 — OWOX BI BigQuery Reports Extension. Boost Your Data Analysis with Sorting

changelog-2024-06-20 (1).png

Today, we are thrilled to introduce a new Sorting feature, which complements our existing Filter and Limit functionalities to enhance your data management capabilities. Before importing data from BigQuery into Google Sheets, you can now select fields to sort in either ascending or descending order. You can add sorting for multiple fields and easily adjust their order.

Usage Scenarios

Our goal is to simplify data management for users who prefer not to write or modify SQL code. With the OWOX BI BigQuery Reports extension, you can select your desired settings, click the Run button, and retrieve your report data. This extension handles large datasets reliably, allowing you to extract only the essential data before importing it into Google Sheets, thus avoiding Google’s cell limit restrictions.

Watch the video below to see how effortless multi-sorting is.

Here are a few common use cases:

  • Example 1 – Sales Manager: A sales manager needs to track and compare sales performance across various regions. Although a data analyst has prepared the query, importing all the data into Google Sheets isn't practical. First, the manager filters the data for the current month. Next, they sort by region and total sales amount in descending order. Clicking the Run button generates a regional sales performance report in Google Sheets, making it easy to compare different regions.
  • Example 2 – Marketing Manager: A marketing manager aims to segment customers based on their purchasing behavior for planning marketing campaigns. The manager filters data for customers who made purchases in the last six months and sorts the data by total purchase value and recency of purchase. Clicking the Run button generates a segmented list of high-value customers in Google Sheets, facilitating targeted marketing without needing SQL expertise.

How It Works

Let’s explore how this feature works from the perspective of a 'Customer'—typically a manager or colleague who doesn't have access to BigQuery and doesn't modify SQL code.

Step 1: In the extension panel, expand the Sort section and click the “+ New Sort” button.
