Welcome to the OWOX AI assistant guide — your shortcut to getting accurate reports in Google Sheets in seconds, not minutes.

Important: The OWOX AI assistant feature in the “OWOX: Reports” extension for Google Sheets is currently in Preview mode. It’s available for OWOX BI projects that agreed to join our early access program and share feedback to improve the functionality. About OWOX AI assistant

OWOX AI assistant helps business users get data from BigQuery directly in Google Sheets through a chat interface—without writing SQL or knowing the structure of their datasets, tables, or fields.

At the same time, it helps data analysts automate workflows and simplify the process of creating even complex reports. To get started, analysts only need to prepare the essential Data Marts with core business data and provide field descriptions. This helps the assistant understand the meaning of your data.

How does it work

To use the OWOX AI assistant effectively, your project needs a Data Model — a structure that describes business logic and includes semantic data descriptions. This model is built from multiple Data Marts connected by key fields.

Getting Started requirements

Before using the assistant, make sure you have:

• An active Google Cloud Platform project (how to set up GCP).
• Your data is stored in Google BigQuery.
• Access to the data as BigQuery Admin or BigQuery Data Owner.
• The "OWOX: Reports" extension for Google Sheets installed (how to install).
• Available credits in your OWOX BI account.
• Permission to join the preview program — contact bi@owox.com to get access.

First step — Create your Data Marts

In the “OWOX: Reports” extension, define the essential Data Marts you’ll use in your OWOX BI project.

Each Data Mart is based on an SQL query. Once it’s executed in your GCP project, the extension saves its output schema — forming the structure of your Data Model.

Getting reports via chat with OWOX AI assistant

If you’re part of the early access program, you’ll see an “Edit with OWOX AI assistant” button next to the name of each Data Mart when creating or editing a report in Google Sheets.

Click this button to open a chat with the assistant. Enter your request in natural language — and the assistant will:

• Generate the SQL query for your task
• Run it
• Load the result into your spreadsheet

You’ll get the data you need — with the structure you requested — right in Google Sheets. If something needs adjusting, simply continue the conversation in the same chat to update the report. Through an iterative process, you and the assistant can refine your query until the report fully matches your request (as long as the data exists in your Data Model).
