Google BigQuery → MyTarget Audience pipeline set-up

The Google BigQuery → MyTarget Audience pipeline has an alpha status and is not publicly available. To enable the feature in your OWOX BI project, contact Support at bi@owox.com

How the pipeline works

The Google BigQuery → MyTarget Audience pipeline automatically imports the audience segment data from Google BigQuery to MyTarget.
There is no need to gather data into the .csv table and upload it manually via the MyTarget interface anymore. Just combine the segment data by SQL query in your Google BigQuery project, set up the pipeline, and OWOX BI will start uploading data to MyTarget on a daily basis.

Preliminary requirements

Prior to setting up the pipeline, make sure you have:

1. The relevant data for the segment creation. Data can be taken from different datasets and tables, yet it should be stored within a single Google BigQuery project.

You may use the following data:

  • emails
  • phone numbers
  • user IDs (Odnoklassniki)
  • user IDs (Vkontakte)
  • user IDs (Moi mir)
  • device IDFA
  • Google Advertising IDs

2. SQL query to combine data. You will need to add the query to the pipeline settings. As a result of the query run, you should receive a list of specific identifiers. See the details in the table below.

Segment data type Value format in the SQL query

Emails

Use the following format for emails:

email@mail.ru

You can upload both encrypted and unencrypted data. MyTarget will encrypt data automatically if needed.

An acceptable hashing algorithm is MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5).

Phone numbers

A numeric string that contains a mobile phone number with a country/region code. No spaces or other symbols are allowed.

79011234567

You can upload both encrypted and unencrypted data. MyTarget will encrypt data automatically if needed.

An acceptable hashing algorithm is MD5 (Message-Digest algorithm 5).

User IDs (Odnoklassniki)
User IDs (Vkontakte)
User IDs (Moi mir)

The IDs of the social networks VK and OK/ Should be provided as a numeric string without prefixes. Symbolic names are not allowed.
138232696

Google Advertising IDs

Google Advertising ID (GAID) for the Android devices must be defined in the following format:
38400000-8cf0-11bd-b23e-10b96e40000d

Device IDFA

IDFA for the iOS devices must be defined in the following format:
317F5B7E-E95F-4831-9F60-EC371146CAD3

Please make a test run of your SQL query in Google BigQuery before you apply this query to the pipeline.
As a result, you should receive a list of 2 000 - 5 000 000 unique single-type identifiers (e.g. either the phone numbers or Odnoklassniki IDs).

How to set up the pipeline

The Google BigQuery → MyTarget Audience pipeline has an alpha status and is not publicly available. To enable the feature in your OWOX BI project, you should send your request to bi@owox.com.
You will then be provided with a direct link to the pipeline set-up page. Follow the instructions below to complete the pipeline creation.

Step 1. Select Google BigQuery as a data source.

Step 2. Select MyTarget as a destination location for the audience segment import.

Step3. Grant OWOX BI access to Google BigQuery. Make sure your Google account is assigned the "BigQuery Data Editor" и "BigQuery User" roles in Google Cloud Platform.

Step 6. Create a user list.

Step 7. Сlick Create pipeline.

The pipeline will be created with the Blocked status. To unblock the pipeline, navigate to the Query tab and paste SQL query. As a result of the query run, you should receive a list of identifiers.

SQL query requirements:

  • Define a single parameter REF after the SELECT statement. See the example below.
SELECT
   user.email as REF
  FROM
  ……

Step 8. Once you paste the SQL query, click Activate pipeline.

If the query is written correctly, the pipeline will change its status to Running. OWOX BI will start creating the segment. Once the segment is created, it will be sent to Facebook Audience automatically.  Information is updated every 24 hours from the moment the pipeline is created.

At any time, you can adjust your SQL query. To do it, go to the Query tab, make the edits, then click Apply changes.
